Every honor book, newest first
Newbery Honor Books by Year
1922 to 2026
Each year the Association for Library Service to Children awards one Newbery Medal, and its committee may also name Newbery Honor Books, which the award’s terms describe as books “that are also truly distinguished.” An honor book did not win the medal. From the first award in 1922, committees could, and usually did, cite other books as worthy of attention, and called them runners up; in 1971 the name changed to honor books, and the change reached back to every earlier runner up. This page lists all 346 of them, as the ALSC records them. None are recorded for 1923, 1924 or 1927, and 1931 and 1934 have eight each. Laura Ingalls Wilder received five honors and never the medal.
Looking for the medal itself? Newbery Medal Winners lists every winner, with a page for each book.

Where this list comes from
The list follows the ALSC’s own record, Newbery Medal Winners and Honor Books, 1922 to Present, checked title by title against Wikipedia’s table of Newbery winners and honors. Where that record misspells a name or title, drops a leading article or omits a coauthor, we follow the form that Wikipedia’s table and Open Library’s catalog records agree on, and we keep a note of each change. The award’s terms and history are on the ALSC’s Newbery Medal page.
